There’s something not quite right about the way Google’s hardware plans have leaked so quickly and comprehensively this weekend.
Google obviously tests new hardware and software design combos all the time – so how come its Nexus One Android handset plans have leaked so quickly? And how come they’ve leaked on Twitter? And in the papers? And everywhere?
Surely if a Google employee is given something TOP SECRET to test and is told NOT TO TELL ANYONE, that’s exactly what happens. Or they get sacked on Monday morning and don’t get to enjoy the benefits of working at Google any more.
You most certainly DO NOT put photos of it on the internet within minutes of leaving the office. But…
The way numerous Google employees have been bragging about having a test Nexus One on Twitter, and their various blogs, and showing them to loose-lipped friends, hints, to us at least, that a few people were told by Google to leak the news and photos on purpose, in order to get news of the new Google mobile “out there” as quickly as possible.
Not that this is a problem, of course. It’s fine for Google to play with our emotions like this – but just bear in mind that this is the sick, underhand way BIG BUSINESS operates sometimes. Not all news is news.
How many free column inches of advertising has Google earned for its Google Phone / Nexus One this weekend after this web craziness? And that’s before the thing has even been officially announced. Brilliant work, Google.
If you want to beat Apple, you have to play a bit dirty.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ December 14, 2009Regretably, very little ‘news’ is news. There is so much duplication going on.. the picture above for example.

/ December 14, 2009It was an amazing weekend. The same two facts were written again, again and again, seemingly becoming more “true” with every incantation. Madness.
