The T-Mobile Pulse, which is the first contract-free, “pay as you go” Android phone to hit the UK, wasn’t particularly highly spoken of in reviews. It’s resistive touch-screen has a slightly non-aspirational plastic covering on it, plus, due to internal memory restrictions, it’s unlikely an update to Android 1.6 versions or later will be possible – unless you want to go down the rooting/hacking route.
But what’s the camera like? The Pulse has a custom shutter button on its case, so we’d expect pictures to be less blurry than those taken from phones that rely solely on touch-screen shooting. Let’s LOOK:
The T-mobile Pulse is more than adequate when asked to perform the most common of cameraphone tasks – taking a picture of a cat being CUTE. Mobile phone shops ought to have in-house cats, so users can test out the cat-photographing powers of their potential new purchase before signing up…
Outside, everything looks OK. It’s not being asked to capture the sky, though, which is what seems to catch out most mobile cameras. Good colours, nice detail there in the foreground, although the background does descend into blancmange – leaving us unable to work out what street the reviewer lives on.
Here’s a shot the reviewer composed to illustrate phones that are better than the T-Mobile Pulse.
The traditional blurry indoor shot that tells us nothing. Pictures taken from Endadget Mobile‘s Pulse review. The Pulse’s 3.2megapixel lens does the job, basically. We’re not a camera review site, so can’t be any more specific than that. See for yourself, then decide if you can live with it as an emergency photo-taking tool.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
