We feel a bit emotionally involved with the poor Samsung Galaxy i7500, what with the phone and its users seemingly given a rough ride by Samsung, Google and the mobile operators, and finding itself lumbered with Android 1.5 with no likelihood of an update to Android 2.0 or even 1.6.
But that’s for them to sort out. What we really want to know is… WHAT’S THE GALAXY’S CAMERA LIKE?
It’s like this. A pretty impressive photo. Cheaper cameras often struggle with oddly-lit internal spaces, but this one’s very good. Decent colours, no purple mess around those lights – good work, Samsung!
Not so impressive outdoors. This photo’s been taken on a dull old day, but the i7500′s lens is really struggling with all the detail of the plants there. It could be windy day, mind. The crops might be swaying.
Nice shot. The Galaxy COPES WITH EASE in these difficult night situations. Blimey, we almost want to hit up eBay and take one of the things off the hands of a disgruntled owner!
And a final close-up. A bit blurry, but otherwise good colour reproduction there. The Galaxy i7500 is, therefore, officially a DECENT cameraphone.
BUT CAN IT REPLACE A PROPER CAMERA?
Yes, it looks like it could, as long as you’re not taking photos of celebrities coming out of nightclubs to go on the covers of magazines.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
