PHOTO SAMPLES: Shots taken with an HTC Dream, AKA T-Mobile G1

Ahh, the good old T-Mobile G1, known as the HTC Dream in other places. The Android phone that kicked it all off. The Android phone that was, to be frank, rather underwhelming, what with its super-chunky keyboard-based design and the rather “bare bones” state the Android OS was in when the phone arrived.

But anyway. Here’s what The G1′s camera picture quality is like, courtesy of a few unedited example shots produced by the brave old G1/Dream.

Oh dear. This one’s horrible. The camera makes a right old mess of doing the sky, and doesn’t seem to have enough range to handle light skies and dark areas in the same shot. Pretty place, though. Wish we were there, in a boat, a boat full of beer and sausage sandwiches.

That’s an OK one. A bit blurry, but pretty much every photo ever taken with an Android phone turns out to be blurry, thanks to the extremely dodgy touch-screen focusing system most of them use.

Well… it gets the job done. It has recorded the scene so you don’t have to waste your brain battery remembering it and can prove to others that you were really there. That’s about all we have to say.

SUMMARY: The old G1′s output is not a patch on that of the HTC Hero, and bordering on being as poor as the Motorola DROID. Which is exactly what you’d expect from an Android phone that’s bordering on being in the “legacy” category.
