Good lord, look at the utterly MAD keyboard on this bizarre clamshell thing. It’s like Lenovo has entered into a competition to see if it can make a phone that’s even more ugly than the DROID.
It would appear to have succeeded:
On the positive side, Lenovo’s generously screwed in an on-the-large-side 3.7″ OLED touchscreen, which seems to rapidly be becoming the default screen size for all new Android phones going forwards. There’s much more about the Lephone over at MobileCrunch, including a video of Lephone’s Android build in action – which is believed to be a modified almost beyond recognition version 2.0.
Motorola’s latest flagship dual-core Android monster is a massive, original powerhouse, that’s a big improvement on previous MOTOBLUR mobiles – but still isn’t a total winner.
A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ January 8, 2010I actually quite like this phone’s looks. I also like the fact the keyboard is an optional external peripheral, as I know a lot of folks consider a phone without a keyboard an instant turn-off. Saying that, I’m sure you won’t be getting the keyboard packaged with the phone for free. I dread to think how much extra people will have to shell out for it. Stupid keyboard layouts don’t design themselves, someone will have to pay for the weeks of brainstorming sessions it must have taken their design team ‘experts’ to come up with something so utterly pointless.
I have a sneaky suspicion this phone might just be a big player in the coming months. The only drawback being that holy crap, but it’s big (either that or the reviewer in the vid has really tiny hands…)
