Newton is an amazing little game that just went up on the Android Market over Christmas. It’s probably a clone of something that first appeared on the Commodore 64 back in 1984, but we don’t care about that – it’s an utterly ingenious little physics puzzler.
That looks like this…
You are a little yellow space ship and you have to shoot the purple gate. It’s easy, until lumps of scenery get dumped in the way, forcing you to use mirrors and “pushers” and “pullers” to defect your bullet and have it changing trajectory in flight, effectively shooting around corners.
Considering Newton is the not-yet-finished work of one man (operating under the name Badlogic Games), it’s already quite an astonishingly polished game – even including the menu option to switch between simple 2D vector graphics and the slightly jazzier filled-in 3D models you see in these screenshots.
Demo version Newton Lite is up on the Android Market right now for FREE, with 21 levels yours to play with. The developer is promising a larger version will appear soon. Hopefully he’ll Google himself and pop up in the comments to say hello and provide a link to his blog, if he has one. We are now officially his fans.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ January 12, 2010Yeah, I love Newton too. If you like it, you should check out Space Physics, which has a similar sort of feel to it. There are a lot of good physics puzzlers out there actually.
Also, the dev does have a blog as it happens, but there’s only one post there. It’s at http://www.apistudios.com/hosted/marzec/newton/index.php?page=1

/ January 12, 2010Cheers for that. I had a go on Space Physics, but it just seemed like a really random experience. It also bogged down the processor on my poor Magic whenever there was too much stuff on screen.

/ January 28, 2010Hi!
Thanks for your kind review! Smalls devs like me depend on people like you to get the word out!
Newton is a clone of the ingenious flash game Gravity Pods as well as some old Amiga and C64 games i played in my youth.
Get in touch with me anytime via my blog at http://www.badlogicgames.com or via e-mail/Google Talk. I’m always happy to chat about android game development and provide bloggers and writers with beta versions of my games.
Thanks again!
