Those stunning headline numbers come from tech analyst Gartner, which has been doing a bit of fevered MATHS regarding the global demand for smartphone apps. And those numbers include iPhone and iPod Touch apps, obviously. Android has had a good period, but not that good a period.
Gartner also said Apple has an astonishing stranglehold on the app scene at the moment, accounting for an incredible – and might we say suspiciously unbelievable – 99.4 percent of all app downloads. Despite the best efforts of Michael Quach.
However, there is some good news for Android users and any people persevering with BlackBerry devices and Nokia’s Ovi store – Apple’s app market share is predicted to drop to a slightly less-crushing 67 percent of the market during 2010, as other manufacturers power up the rankings. If you believe what Gartner says at all, of course.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
