Speaking on his blog and quoted by The Register, IBM Lotus man Ed Brill underlined his company’s announcement of the arrival of Lotus Notes Traveler for iPhone this week, also letting us know that an Android version is on the way so there’s no need for us to feel left out. We just feel a little saddened about being made to wait.
Here’s what Ed had to say. He still thinks his company is AT WAR with Microsoft, bless him.
“Second, we announced a plan to deliver a Lotus Notes Traveler client for Android. As astute readers of this blog noted a few months ago, we’ve been looking at our options here — a quick-fix approach to using the installed software on some of the Android-based devices, or a more serious commitment to building a full client.
We’ve opted for the latter, and demonstrated it briefly today. Android is a different challenge versus our other mobile platforms — the different providers can and will create their own distributions and installed software. As such, we’re doing the engineering to do this right — and ahead of Microsoft, by the way.”
And that’s what Lotus looks like on iPhone. Replace those washed-out blues with subtle greens and you’ll be able to imagine what Android Lotus will look like when it arrives. In fact, let’s attempt that in Photoshop right now…
There. That’s pretty much it.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
