While the previous Samsung Galaxy i7500 rots in Android 1.5 Hell, the latest Samsung Android phone has hit the UK in the shape of the Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700, the official UK name for the previously spotted Samsung Galaxy Spica.
T-Mobile is today knocking out the Galaxy Portal for free if you’re forward-thinking enough to sign up to a £23 a month tariff and an 18 month contract, making the Galaxy Portal a reasonable entry-level Android option. Check out T-Mobile’s i5700 spec sheet for more details if you’re now a bit interested.
Incidentally, all these stories doing the rounds about the original Samsung Galaxy getting “officially” updated to Android 2.0 are nonsense – they’re based on the words of a Samsung fan Twitter account, and NOT actual confirmation from Samsung itself. The Galaxy i7500 remains in 1.5 firmware hell.
With thanks to the tireless OMIO for the heads-up. The Portal can be had at T-Mobile UK, if you’re keen.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
