The latest fantastic bit of news-bait from mobile advertising provider AdMob has appeared online today, with the company releasing a staggeringly comprehensive breakdown of how it saw the spread of global mobile phone operating systems in Q4 of 2004.
Here’s the graph, showing mobile OS penetration on an almost continental basis, as “guestimated” by AdMob extrapolating user data based on the numbers of adverts it serves within downloaded mobile apps.
There’s a lot to digest. It’s a statistical Christmas dinner:
Where do you even START with this? Symbian is winning in “developing” markets, Android is EXPLODING in North America right now, while iPhone still clearly dominates in Western Europe. RIM’s BlackBerry OS is the best of a pretty miserable rest, while Windows Mobile is pretty much languishing in the realms of statistical noise.


INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
