According to some sums performed by Digitimes, Motorola looks like unseating HTC as the world’s favourite Android phone maker during 2010 – mostly thanks to the staggering success of the Motorola DROID in North America.
Digitimes estimates that HTC sold around six million Android-powered smartphones in 2009, giving it a 64.5% market share – but Motorola, with its DROID shifting a barnstorming TWO MILLION units since launching in October 2009 and the arrival of the DEXT/CLIQ, is expected to blitz HTC during 2010 and take the #1 spot.

We’re not sure Digitimes is doing anything other than wildly extrapolating its figures for 2010 based on the Q4 performance of the DROID in North America, but still. The recent staggering turnaround in the fortunes of Motorola is worthy of praise.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
