Android 2.1 update apparently “confirmed” for HTC Tattoo

The HTC Tattoo, which is the super-discounted, entry level, pay-as-you-go Android phone you can pick up for around £160 unlocked and ready to go on the network of your choice, IS getting an update to Android 2.1 – so do not throw your Tattoo in the bin just yet.

The news comes via French Android site Frandroid, which says it received the following confirmation direct from HTC:

“Kindly note we understand that now that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Tattoo. We are still working hard to building Sense for this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android version to ensure you have the intuitive experience Sense provides, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer”

At least, we think that’s what it means.

Bloody good news if you’re lumbered/blessed with a Tattoo, if it’s true. Unlocked and boxed HTC Tattoos are currently going for around £160 on eBay, or, if you’d prefer an official bundle nobody’s had their fingers on, reputable dealer Play is knocking them out SIM-free and unlocked for £179.
