Google, a bit bruised from yesterday’s graph of shame about seemingly disappointing Nexus One launch window sales, has issued a statement about its wider aims for the Nexus and Android itself – and put on a very brave face about it all.
It’s not about the Nexus One alone, it’s about every other Android phone as well. Someone buying a Motorola DROID still makes a Google employee smile. Here’s the full Google statement, as borrowed from Engadget:
“We’re pleased with our sales volumes and with how well the Nexus One has been received by our customers. The Nexus One is one of a fast growing number of Android handsets which have been brought to market through the open Android ecosystem. Our partners are shipping more than 60,000 Android handsets each day compared with 30,000 just three months ago.
“There are about 30,000 apps available on Android Market, which is more than double the number of apps that were available just four months ago. Additionally, we’ve seen app purchases increase more than 3 times in that same four month period. So we’re not only seeing more developers bringing apps to Android Market, but Android users are also purchasing more apps”
And here’s a photo of a HUGE Nexus One we’ve been saving for a special occasion:
The Nexus One is still listed as vaguely Coming Soon over at UK stockist Vodafone, alongside such next-gen Android elite phones as the Legend, Desire and Sony Ericsson’s X10.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
