HTC Desire unsurprisingly pricey – yours from £30 per month, plus £79 up-front connection fee

Ouch. We knew it was coming, but it still hurts even though we’re biting down as hard as possible on the mouse cable. UK high street retailer Carphone Warehouse is currently taking pre-orders for HTC’s stunning upcoming Desire Android phone, with the tariffs starting at £30 per month. STARTING AT. That’s top-end stuff, the sort of range usually reserved for Apple fans.

Carphone Warehouse’s cheapest £30 monthly tariff is yours through a 24-month T-Mobile contract with an up-front fee for the handset of £79. If you don’t mind paying a bit more each month you can get that connection charge down to £49 – but then your monthly bill rises to a minimum of £35.

It makes the £20 per month T-Mobile UK wants for its solid but unremarkable Samsung Galaxy Portal seem like a steal in comparison. You’ll certainly end your 24-month contract significantly better off by bravely rejecting the Desire, if with fewer fashionable and influential friends.
