This little independent production popped up on the Android Market earlier today, and fills a massive gap – by providing a simple, searchable database of train departure times. You pick your journey’s start and end station, then up pops a list of times and all the stations called at along the way by the next departing train.
Simple as that. You don’t want to be messing about with clunky browser timetable search interfaces when you’ve got to change at East Croydon in a three minute window.
UK Rail is developed by a team called Web Methods. It might be this Web Methods, but then again it might not. We can’t work it out. Good work, though, whoever made it. Feel free to leave a comment claiming responsibility.
Motorola’s latest flagship dual-core Android monster is a massive, original powerhouse, that’s a big improvement on previous MOTOBLUR mobiles – but still isn’t a total winner.
A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ April 19, 2010I decided to write the UK Rail application to satisfy my need to know what train leaves and at what time on my morning communte and vice versa when I return from a hard days work.
Its not perfect and it still needs a bit of work but I thought I would share it as it has saved time in the past rather than looking at those stupid boards.

/ May 10, 2010If you can have a look at the Train Track app that windows mobile users have got on their app store – I wished someone would rewrite that for Android so maybe you can ;) It’s got a really fun colourful interface so might be a good reference.
