HTC’s UK support site has just been updated with news of a minor over-the-air update to the HTC Legend, a phone which we’re going to start referring to as the Most Underrated Smartphone of Our Time.
The Legend update apparently fixes a few “missing app” problems that afflicted the phone and stopped it playing nicely and recognising the existence of certain apps that used the handset’s camera (although the main issue was more to do with protected apps not showing up on the Market listings).
Here’s how HTC broke the news a short while ago:
Update – HTC Legend Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your phone to enable apps that use the camera. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.31.405.4 for an HTC phone. Note: We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx
And here’s a rare from-behind stock image of the Legend:
Poor HTC Legend. If it had been released in any other fiscal quarter it would’ve set the world on fire. As it is, the poor thing was flattened by the Desire in Europe and will be ignored in the face of the Incredible and a bunch of ugly Motorolas in the US. Life is not fair.
Maybe it’ll take off in “emerging markets” eh?

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
