HTC Desire firmware updated – v1.19.161.5 available OTA in the UK

According to several Vodafone users today, the network has released an over-the-air update for the HTC Desire in the UK, taking the hot new Android phone’s OS up to version 1.19.161.5.

And no, this is NOT anything as exciting as an Android 2.2 update, it’s only a rather small bug-fixing build that has most users questioning what – and indeed IF – anything has actually changed.

Reader James tells us a Facebook glitch has been fixed, while the radio image has also been updated, which could help if you’ve been struggling with 2G/3G connection issues.

We’re trying to get a complete changelist out of Vodafone and HTC, to make everything all nice and official. If you have a Desire, try doing a manual check for updates – there might be something there for you.

How exactly do you manually check for updates? The update isn’t listed on the HTC website so could it just be the vodafone firmware getting the update?

I have the update. It seems nothing major has changed, however Facebook seems to have issues. Despite WiFi access, no data is being loaded ie status updates and even my own profile. I’m on Vodafone UK, and would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.

I think the Facebook problem mentioned by Edward Hamilton is nothing to do with any update. I have the same problem today on the Nexus One

  10. It is the facebook app that has been the problem with thousands of users nothing to do with an update.
After facebook have changed the newsfeeds, the app has lost its way. Hopefully a new update will come – or if you are impatient head for the market & download another facebook app.
