If you’re not bothered about having the hottest phone of the week in your pocket, the Samsung Galaxy Portal is a solid choice for Android newcomers. Better still, T-Mobile UK is knocking it out on a £15 per month contract, which gives you 300 minutes and 300 texts, along with “unlimited” (*) mobile internet.
That’s not bad at all. Here it is, in our test shopping basket as proof:
The Portal’s the very definition of “workmanlike” – chunky and solid, with a 3.2″ screen and all the standard Android features you need. The T-Mobile variant is limited to Android 1.6 at the moment, but an update really ought to be imminent, as the Three Portal is fully Android 2.1 ready.
And of course, T-Mobile’s idea of “unlimited” internet is a generous 3GB of data, making it the one network where you don’t have to be afraid to actually USE your telephone.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
