We’ve had a couple of emails from readers who’ve been BADGERING T-Mobile for news on when the network’s variant of the HTC Hero, which it rebranded the G2 Touch, is due for its long-awaited OS update.
Asking when the network & phone might get the Android 2.1 update they’ve all received the same response – that the Android 2.1 update is “being tested” right now. Here’s precisely what T-Mobile has been cutting & pasting in email responses to all the queries it’s been getting about Android 2.1 on the G2 Touch:
“”It’s currently being tested, we’ll tweet more info as soon as we get it. Watch this space :)”
That ties in very nicely with the “June 18” reports of a general Euro-wide start date for the roll out of Android 2.1 for all HTC Hero versions. It looks like it might actually happen.
Not long now, Hero / G2 owners. You’ve all been very patient. Well, some of you have. Hopefully you’ll start being rewarded with an all-new OS in the next week or two.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ June 13, 2010The curse of Android – reliance on mobile network operators to deliver updates. That should ALWAYS be a matter for a phone manufacturer but on this scene consumers/phone users are the last bunch anyone takes care of.
That’s why my HTC Desire is free as a bird.
And that’s why iPhone is still a better option. If only it wasn’t so expensive SIM free (Orange Slovakia sells them without a contract and without a SIM and, as ALL phones, it’s unlocked).
