HTC has once again updated its support page with news of a new version of the HTC Hero OS, and this latest OS update is only applicable to those users who updated their phones with the last one.
So if you already have the 2.73.405.xx version update from last week, this one’s for you. Who knows what it might do?
Here’s HTC’s description:
Update – HTC Hero Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update (Only applicable to System Image upgrade to 2.73.405.xx)
“In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your HTC Hero with the System Image version2.73.405.5 (EU); 2.73.405.6_R (Nordic); 2.73.405.66 (Greece/ Ireland).(Simply click on the version number to lead you to the download page to upgrade your phone accordingly.) Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.73.405.93 (EU); 2.73.405.94 (Nordic) & 2.73.405.95 (Greece/ Ireland).”
We’re not sure what this does, to be frank. The description suggests it’s a newer version of the previous preparatory update, but this also fits in with the previously reported June 18 launch date for the full Android 2.1 update, so…

“Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.”

/ June 19, 2010Is everyone feeling alright – if u had any common sense you would read the date of the rom upgrade page – Release Date: 2009-09-11 uhhh. the article has it wrong, they have merely republished last weeks update again!!!! No change on status of movement.

/ June 19, 2010I did the update on my HTC Hero. The build number has now changed to 2.73.405.93 as told on HTC’s site.
But the Firmware version is still 1.5
This means we still haven’t got the 2.1 update yet :-(

/ June 19, 2010I think that HTC is taking their sweet time with the new ROM update. I think they need to put a small bit of effort towards previous devices. Hero users are getting impatient, I am one of there ones who think it may never happen unless we install a third party ROM.

/ June 19, 2010if you have a fairly newish update and in the UK i dont thing the 2.73.405 update applies you all ready have a newer firmware, my hero is a 3UK hero and the firmware is 2.73.7xx which is a newer version, well aprently i rang HTC about this and they confirm this, and i will get a initial update and then the update for 2.1 will come 14 days later

/ June 21, 2010I have an unlocked, unbranded Hero and did the update yesterday. All it did was improve the Youtube application (has no more problems loading clips) and added a new option to manually check for OTA updates.
That’s it.
And now I hear the 2.1 has been (seemingly) delayed AGAIN.
Jun 1 – if there is no update by then, to hell with it, I’m rooting my Hero.
