If you’re in the habit of believing what HTC tells the legions of angry people who email it on a daily basis, here’s a good one for you – the company is currently telling people its “FroYo” Android 2.2 update for the HTC Desire will arrive within the next two weeks.
And that’s the over-the-air update through the networks, too. Here’s the latest hope-giving quote from HTC, obtained by a MoDaCo reader:
“Thank you for contacting us in regards to your flash player issue. Within the next 2 weeks HTC will release the Android 2.2 OS over the air. The will enable the lastest version of Adobe Flash Player on your device and will resolve any exisiting issues. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.”
Amazing news. If true. IF true. IF IF IF IF IF and so on.

Imagine a world where the HTC Hero gets Android 2.1 and the Desire gets 2.2. This fantasy reality COULD EXIST very soon. It could be… tomorrow. Or Wednesday. Or Friday. But again, that’s if you believe what comes from HTC’s rather besieged customer service operatives.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ June 20, 2010If it was true, it would be soooo awesome.
Wouldn’t that make the Desire the first 2.2 phone outside of the Nexus 1?

/ June 20, 2010hmm i get the feeling this is about as true as the HTC Dream (G1) getting anything newer than 1.6

/ July 13, 2010Waiting unpatiently myself. Love the desire, but have switched back to my old phone while I wait for 2.2
My desire got out of space all of the time -and even buggy-, so the usage of the phone as for now is like zero. My old Samunsung i8910 will have to do for now. Concidering flashing the desire without sense though, but was told it would come soon?
I’m gonna wait for a week TOPS two for a update, else I’ll just skip sense. It’s looks nice, but not my carrot for the phone :) It’s the android os in itself :)
so for now,,,my 3 week old phone is turned off waiting for a update within a week or two, or root it with 2.2 myself. Can’t be bothered waiting for a “look-and-feel” just because it looks nice.
android OS has a nice layout itself, and migth even be better to get used to that, so the leap wont be too big for my next android phone in the future:)…not to be locked into sense-way of using the android as a platform.
I really HATE the symbian os on my i8910, so update update update :P

/ July 13, 2010*Drums fingers* Another Android / HTC carrot-and-stick moment? I love my Desire and I’m sure I’ll love it even more with FroYo, but changing the roll-out from “within 2 weeks” to “within Q3″ a matter of days before teh 2 weeks were supposed to hit is a bit rum, isn’t it? C’mon folks, let’s pull it together please!
