HTC Hero set to get Android 2.1 from June 29 – in France

According to a report on Android site Frandroid today, HTC has re-re-reconfirmed the arrival date of Part Two of the HTC Hero Android 2.1 update – and it’ll be here on June 29.

Or rather, it’ll be in France on June 29. France is very near the UK. The HTC Hero update could be physically very close to us on June 29. Here’s Frandroid’s visual proof, which the site says comes from HTC itself.

Top-right “nouvelle version eclair 2.1″ is the important part, under the date:

Android 21 HTC Hero france

It’s more believable because the data is presented in a table AND has the ROM numbers. We’re going to stop writing about this HTC Hero OS update situation until it actually happens. We’re getting very, very bored of it all.

Sorry if we’ve been going overboard on this recently :(

Thank goodness, I just about exploded with rage when I heard the release was still unconfirmed. I really don’t want HTC to abandon the Hero, it’s a bloody good phone for the contracts you can get it on these days.

lost patience and finally rooted mine yesterday, put the Taiwan 2.1 release on since it has English and definitely dont regret it!

when the UK Orange Hero update comes out I’ll switch to the official, but i bet that’s still not going to happen for weeks…

” We’re going to stop writing about this HTC Hero OS update situation until it actually happens. ” no dont! this is the only website that is covering the update efficiently! you’re doing a better job than HTC and Orange put together!

Don’t put the official ROM on, as it’s likely to be irreversible, Wait a short while and there will be a repack of the standard ROM, which runs as a update.zip that’s fully compatible with the recovery image you are running.

    Why?

Well when someone pulls a Android hybrid 2.2 ROM using HTC’s 2.1 sense work and Google’s 2.2 android work, you still have the choice to be able to pick that up and benefit from performance improvements in their region of 200%

Even if you don’t think you want that now, why lock yourself out from it? Running a repack (as you know, running the Taiwan repack), is the same as running the real deal, it’s just leaving the door open to move forward in future.

thanks for the advise, so your saying i should be able to go straight from my rooted Taiwan 2.1 to a “repackaged” UK 2.1 ROM? That would be fine with me! quicker than waiting for Orange to repack as well…

The option to move to a 2.2 ROM would be cool too… :)

    Thanks again.

I want 2.2 so bad and im sick of all this 2.1 waiting. I will use 2.1 until a stable 2.2 ROM becomes available and i’ll never look back!

    Here’s to hoping

I am sorry that HTC with an otherwise fine phone may have seriously damaged HTC’s reputation.

Android is an open source OS and so it depends a lot on developers and peoples input, its far more of a peoples OS that any other phone OS. So stringing its techsavy following along with vapourware may have long-term consequences. I know that HTC have had some issues with the update due to the specific phones hardware and that someone at some point thought that delaying the update may encourage users to buy a new phone (which nets them revenue when upgrading users doesn’t) – I’m not sure that my next phone which I will buy in the next 12 months will be from HTC.
