HTC Desire still suffering from stock shortages – sold out at O2

It looks like the HTC Desire STOCK CRISIS is lumbering on into its third painful month, with UK mobile network O2 currently telling customers it’s all out of HTC Desires.

At least it’s being upfront about it and not trying to take orders without letting people know it hasn’t got any handsets like SOME NETWORKS we could mention. For that, O2, we respect you.

Also, while we’re at it, the latest stock update on the Vodafone forum, updated on May 29, said the Desire was also out of stock there, however SIM-free retailer Expansys has it in stock – for £399 SIM-free if you’re feeling rich.

  1. It’s worth the wait though. 3 were upfront about stock shortage, both in store and online (I was told air freight shipments were held up due to the ash clouds), while T-Mobile (or more accurately a 3rd party online webretailer), were clear about the shortage.
A couple of weeks delay is fine, but longer can become difficult for PAC code number porting.
But until today’s iPhone4 launch, the HTC Desire was/is the hottest product. Understandably so too!

  2. A colleague tried upgrading through Orange to the Desire and earlier on and was unable to but I now notice they are now back in stock on their website – but for how long is anyone’s guess.

They managed to get it on mobiles.co.uk in the end where they have stock on every phone and also some good deals with line rental discounts, free gifts etc. Just checked and mobiles.co.uk say they have availability on all five main networks for the HTC Desire – seems unusual but maybe they sourced phones direct and not via any networks.

  3. I’ve been waiting for 5 weeks now, for my 3rd-party sourced Desire on 3. I get an email every Monday and Thursday telling me it’s still not in stock.

  4. apparently mine’s been dispatched (from o2) today

  5. HTC seems to be hammered at the moment.

The HTC Droid Incredible is out of stock until the end of the month in the US. The EVO has seen a shortage in some areas and things are only going to get busier.

Saying that, with the new iPhone out I guess we will see the pressure leave HTC for a month or two.

  6. I got my desire a couple of weeks after it was released and 3 days after I ordered it. The place that always seems to have stock in is mobile phones direct, their delivery times are fast however I found they passed on the wrong details about the phone I have to T-Mobile, but a quick call to T-Mobiles customer service fixed this.

  7. Bizarrely I got a phone call from O2 earlier telling me it was back in stock on their network. I say bizarrely because they already know I have a Desire with them (although bought unlocked and then used).

Billy Hicks is correct – HTC are having problems worldwide with stock shortages. Another Android site said that the HTC Evo is sold out completely in US and that the Incredible was sold out until the end of this month/beginning of next month.

Not sure if the iPhone will affect sales of Desires all that much since it is expected to be much more expensive, especially if the network operators etc reverse the price increases which they undertook when they realised there were massive shortages of phones and so they could charge a premium. If the Desire goes back to being offered at lower prices once again such as free on £17 per month as Three did and lower SIM only prices then the Desire will be even more competitive against the iPhone and will continue to sell in massive amounts until something else comes along (maybe the Galaxy S?).

  8. Am getting antsy now. With recent discovery over the PenTile screen, and rumour of upcoming HTC phones Glacier, Vision and LED, am considering cancelling the order. The same deal I took isn’t available any more though, so it’s a once-way decision if I do :s Without any details on those new phones though, I can’t make an educated decision.
