This is another bizarre new Android phone from which you may wish to SHIELD YOUR EYES – the Alcatel OT-980. It’s a crazy, crazy phone, coming with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that flips out length wise.
It’s rather mad.
However, it runs Android 2.1 so can’t be that bad – although Smartphone France’s review is less than complimentary about its resistive touchscreen, as you might expect. Why on earth do manufacturers still use resistive touchscreens why they quite simply don’t work very well?

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ July 14, 2010Um… I can think of one reason why they would want to use resistive touchscreens. fingernails. I found this site while looking for an Android phone WITH a resistive touchscreen. My wife would like to use a touchscreen phone. And she would also like to be able to use it easily. With her long fingernails. I saw a lady at the post office tapping away on a Samsung for T-mobile (or was it Sprint?) and it seemed natural for her. It was like she had a built-in stylus on her finger. It was pretty cool I guess. My wife is hoping that Verizon offers an Android phone with a resistive touchscreen. =]

/ July 14, 2010I suppose if you have any cause to use your phone with something other than a finger or a sausage it might come in handy. But it’s mainly just because they’re cheaper.

/ July 14, 2010Does anyone know how much cheaper? Seems ridiculous to ruin perfectly good phones for a few pence per unit, so I assume there’s quite a gap in costs.
