Hooray! The long-awaited HTC Hero update has been pushed out over-the-air to T-Mobile users, with owners of the G2 Touch bought via T-Mo reporting en masse that the second part of the OS update is now appearing for installation on their Android phones.
Here’s T-Mobile’s announcement:
We have some exciting news for all our G2 users.
The 2.1 firmware update (éclair) will be available from today and will be sent over the air (OTA) direct to your phone over the coming weeks.
You’ll need to save all your personal data before you start downloading. That’s because the upgrade will delete all personal info including software applications from the device.
If you’re using a G2 Touch on T-Mobile and have already updated with Part One of the upgrade, you should perform a manual ‘Check for Updates’ from your phone. If you’re lucky, it’ll be there for you now. And if not – stick the date forward by a few weeks to trigger a new check.
So who’s left to be updated to 2.1 now? Just the Orange users of the Hero?

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ July 15, 2010Checked for updates on my G2 and I’m downloading it now! WIN.
It said it was only going to reset widgets and backgrounds to default, not wipe the phone, however. I’ll post back when it’s done.

/ July 15, 2010T-Mobile and Orange as from the 1st of July are run by a singular umbrella corporation, Everything Everywhere.
I wonder if they will send a T-Mobile tech over to the Orange office for me and the thousands that are left in the TOTAL DARKNESS!!

/ July 15, 2010This is pretty much too little too late. I rooted my G2 Touch when they announced the last delay, and I’ve never looked back. I no longer have the ridiculous T-mobile logo appearing when I switch it on, and there is no T-Mobile crapware on my device either. Not to mention avoiding T-Mobile’s censoring of some Marketplace apps

/ July 15, 2010tried the date trick and nothing….. how long do you leave it.
I have build number 1.76.110.6 on a G2 touch.
So what is part one number?
What is part two number?
People are not exactly clear when they write stuff here are they?
And how do you CHECK for an update with g2 touch with 1.5? where is that? I can only see firmware download settings in settings–>security.
Heres hoping I get the updates…

/ July 15, 2010orange are useless. you pay so much money for a decent phone, and when you expect an update.. you dont even get one. I’m soo going to buy an unlocked phone next time!!!

/ July 16, 2010Orange are unbelievably shocking. I am constantly ringing them about when this upgrade is coming but all I get is a ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude.

/ July 16, 2010T-Mobile are so useless, this is about 6 months too late. i have been waiting way to long for this, and i just read on another blog that they have removed some big functions, and alot of them! So im highly considering not bothering with this OTA update, and chucking VillainROM on, if its still possible to root, with the Part 1 of the update..
