The Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero still hasn’t arrived on the phones of those connected via the Orange network, leaving disgruntled Hero users in a rather annoyed state of limbo.
And what do annoyed men in limbo do? They start up Facebook campaigns. Here’s how the Orange UK Hero owner Facebook group describes itself:
Orange UK are refusing to give any information regarding the 2.1 update to their customers with HTC Hero mobiles.Orange UK Customer Service department will not give any definitive answers to questions posed by numerous customers on various android forums.
Please use this group to register your disapproval, and I will forward the group link to Orange UK, for consideration.
Good luck, gentlemen! We do like helping stir up trouble. It’s an old habit.
The group currently has 59 members at time of writing. If you’re currently waiting for your Orange HTC Hero to update itself to Android 2.1, there’s a rather useful thread following developments and keeping track of who’s hassled who on the Android Forums.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ July 25, 2010Nik, there’s a relatively straightforward DIY fix for updating the T-Mobile Galaxy Portal to 2.1 yourself, if you’re handy with a USB cable. Some of this lot have done it: http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/discussions/index?page=forums&topic=8010387841b40e01298b4f09b3007d32
