Carphone Warehouse, the huge UK mobile retail chain, beat its financial expectations over the last quarter – and specifically singled out the Rise of Android as one of the main reasons why.
Here’s what CPW’s chief exec Roger Taylor told financial types after revealing its £794m in sales for the previous quarter:
“This time a year ago we would have been saying that the smartphone demand was mainly for the iPhone and the BlackBerry, but we’ve seen a real advent of Android in the last three to six months”
Proving the point, the front page of CPW’s web site currently features promos for the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Wildfire, along with the Sony Ericsson X10 family of Android smartphones.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
