A listing for the Chinese launch of a bunch of HTC Android phones made the claim that they’ll arrive with Android 2.2 onboard as their OS – even the rather humble little HTC Wildfire.
We expected the new OS to hit the Desire, but the fact that FroYo’s coming to the Wildfire is great news for anyone who’s already bought one of the miniature HTCs.
And we’ll have loads of news to write, as Wildfire owners endlessly harass HTC and their networks for news of 2.2′s arrival. Everyone’s a winner. Links via Phandroid and Engadget.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

Unfortunately there is no Froyo update available for HTC Wildfire and message what you receive is correct, that there are no updates for this device available. This was the reply I got:
Dear Mr. Carvalho,
Thank you for contacting us,
Kindly be informed that the HTC Wildfire is one of the handsets scheduled to receive the Froyo upgrade, however, for the time being there’s no information regarding the date of release of the upgrade.
number that you can dial only from a landline.

After receiving this vague reply I insisted on getting a possible release date.
Unfortunately I received the following message:
Dear Mr. Carvalho,
Thank you for contacting us,
Kindly be informed that unfortunately for the time being we do not have any information regarding even the approximate date of release of this upgrade, kindly try visiting the HTC website from time to time to keep track of any newly released upgrades.

So it seems that the Wildfire will get the update but HTC can’t tell when.
For a long time HTC customer this is not an expected reply.
If they managed to update the Desire and the Legend, why can’t they upgrade the more recent Wildfire?! The units sold in China already come with it…
I’m really looking forward to an official update for unlocked phones.
When I bought the Wildfire it came with a high probability of receiving Froyo and I am counting on it.

/ November 11, 2010HTC announces Android 2.2 updates for Legend and Wildfire handsets
Better late than never
By Lawrence Latif
Mon Nov 08 2010, 17:17
SMARTPHONE MAKER HTC has announced that two of its mid-range smartphones will be receiving Android 2.2 updates shortly.
The firm said that unlocked Legend and Wildfire devices will receive the update to Android 2.2 “in the coming weeks”. Those with operator locked handsets will have to wait longer, presumably while mobile operators ‘tweak’ the release to fit their marketing goals.

/ November 30, 2010Well, here we are, almost in December and where is Froyo 2.2 for Wildfire? And there seem to be no solid answers about when or if it will now be happening. Mostly if you contact HTC to enquire you receive a stock response that does nothing other than beat around the bush. Most recently, the response states that HTC cannot confirm when, or indeed if, the update for Wildfire will be arriving. I have had enough of this attitude HTC have chosen to adopt towards its loyal customers and therefore have decided to lobby HTC to get an answer once and for all. I have set up a blog to enable a poll and comments to gather support and demand that we are treated like intelligent humans and not buffoons. So if you are as frustrated as me and countless other Wildfire owners please visit my blog at: http://wp.me/p1aWfq-39

/ December 14, 2010As said above. I just checked with HTC support, as my daughters wildfire memory is already full after 1 month of owning it.
he said “at the moment the Android 2.2 is not available for the HTC wildfire and we haven’t information of when and IF it will be released. however please keep and eye on our website” :(
my daughter isn’t to happy, I bought a 16gb sd card, but seems a bit pointless now :(
Sponge Finge
/ December 14, 2010Maybe your daughter is unhappy because her daddy can’t spell ‘too’?
Ixo
/ December 15, 2010No, i think because she can’t move the installed applications to sd card … as froyo do!
