We can’t replicate this problem “in house” here, but there’s a MASSIVE thread over on the Google Help Forum filled with users currently unable to download Android apps through the Android Market.
It’s been stopping users from across Europe, on all manner of networks and phone combinations, from downloading apps since at least last Friday. There’s not much in the way of a response or acknowledgment from Google at this moment in time.
Like we said, Android Market downloads are working here for us on Vodafone in the UK, but there are literally hundreds of angry users on the Google Help Forums complaining about issues. We’ll keep an eye out for Google comments on this.
With thanks to Jeff for the heads-up.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ August 17, 2010I’m from Holland and flashed my phone last sunday, downloaded at least 20 apps from the market without problems.

/ August 17, 2010Yeah I have had this problem, I just left the downloads and when I next picked up my phone they were done.
Roger
/ August 17, 2010Exactly the same symptoms with my HTC Desire on Orange in the UK

/ August 17, 2010No problems here. Lets get a grip on reality here.
100′s of users is miniscule compared the 100 million or so Android phones out there. What is that as a percentage? 0.00001% or something?

/ August 17, 2010I have g1 and anything i try and download just stays on downloading but doesn’t actually do anything

/ August 17, 2010What OLI is describing is similar to what users of cheap Android tablets (like the Eken M001) experienced when using the Google Market. Downloads that never started. There was a hack recently introduced using the Android SDK to run a virtual device and copy the unique ID then generated over to a tablet to give it Market access. I wonder if this is related to a fix for this workaround.

/ August 17, 2010Similiar problem (started FRIDAY 13th), have a long list of apps waiting to be downloaded. Also made the catastopic mistake of “factory reset” so even more apps I am clawing my way to get back.
What I have found though is, by switching off my phone for 1-2 hours it somehow reboots itself and the apps come through. However with a 1 in 3 success rate as many have downloaded and then a message appears to say it was unseccessful.
all in all VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! Any ideas to when this will get resolved?????????

/ August 17, 2010Thanks for posting, not much out there officially on this.
As I have posted on the offical forums; I have two HTC Desires, one working and one not – I’ve not reset my phone and I’m not going to – really shouldn’t be needed.
Downloads have been almost constantly down for my device – the only luck I had was to turn the phone off, change my googlemail password, turn back on – wait for PW error, turn off phone and change password back – when I turned it back on the queued downloads worked instantly – however any new downloads went back to the same routine of stalling.
The other annoying thing is that this is also causing problems with my googlemail being sent to the device instantly.
If I send from my “faulty” device to my other desire it comes through instantly – the reply then doesn’t come through until I ask googmail to refresh on the “faulty” desire. Very annoying.
I wouldn’t mind if all this had happened if it had started after I fiddled with something, but it was working one night, next morning nothing….
Hopefully Google will publish something soon, or give us an update or anything.
At least Apple has the dency to deny their problems… :-P so far Google has said nothing.
O well, fingers crossed I guess huh?

/ August 17, 2010Found that leaving the downloads and restarting the phone solved the problem.

/ August 19, 2010Well, my market downloads are now working.
Last night they just started working again. New downloads work now too.
Emails are back to coming through instantly.
Looks like google fixed it (for me at least :-) ) and are still not telling anyone about it. Kinda poor TBH.

/ August 27, 2010I have found that only a small number of apps will not download. After a couple of seconds I get the ‘download unsuccesful’ message. Had this for about a week. Most other apps and all updates have downloaded and installed with no problem.
HTC Desire, 2.2, T-mobile.

/ August 30, 2010I have been having this problem for about a month now. It started after I bought an app it just hung at “Authorizing Purchase”, After that I could never download anything. I flashed my phone a few times and was able to download between 3 and 22 apps before it hung again. The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S I9000 unlocked. I can download and install apps from Samsung or websites but not from the market
