This just in from an ENRAGED customer of Orange UK, who has been bravely badgering the network for a date for its over-the-air update for the Orange (black) HTC Desire sold through the network. The result – August 27 has been given out as a date. Here is his tale:
“I’ve called Orange several times now and until now have been given the usual “this update usually takes up to four weeks” that is until now. I just got off the phone with Orange customer service and the call operator and I had a quick chat, he popped me on hold for about a minute then came back and told me they now have on their systems a release date of August 27th . He confirmed that I will receive a text message telling me to download the update”
So there you go. A date for you Orange users to get excited about. Although we wouldn’t put too much importance on the words of a call center operative, as they do have a nasty habit of telling people what they want to hear in order to get them off the line…
With thanks to reader Tito for doing the groundwork and sending it in.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ August 23, 2010I’ll believe it when I see it. It took them 3 days to sort the data connection issues out last weekend

/ August 24, 2010I’m with you man. I waited and waited for that update and nothing. I’m impressed with Vodafone’s communication on this update and in how they’re releasing the ‘non-bloatware’ version. Orange should try that when Gingerbread is released.
Thanks to that call operator who actually told me the system update is coming on Friday. Now I can stop checking all the time.

/ August 27, 2010Nothing yet. I doubt that Orange have even bothered to start testing yet, look at what happened to the 2.1 update for the HTC Hero. THey are useless.

/ August 27, 2010“Android fans there has been a delay in receiving the 2.2 Froyo update from HTC, & we now expect it to be available mid-Sep. Apologies
..would like to point out the delay on 2.2 Froyo is not related to Orange services on the device.”
A tweet from @Conorfromorange in the last few minutes.

/ August 29, 2010I spoke to a rep from HTC on Thursday 26th August. The rep told me that Orange UK have had the 2.2 update for quite some time. HTC released the update to Orange according to the HTC rep a few weeks ago. The rep said that Orange are probably putting its own tweaks to the update. I asked HTC about the update as part of a satisfaction survey on their website and THEY call me back, brilliant! Thats what I call customer service. Orange on the other hand……. been asking them the same question for some time now and surprise, surprise…….. not a single response or comment.
Come on Conorfromorange, let the truth set you free.

/ August 27, 2010DAMN YOU, DOUGSTER!
Tim
/ August 27, 2010Yep, so Orange indeed haven’t started even testing the update with their bloatware (which is total rubbish I might add), and so it’s going to take another significant amount of time.

/ August 27, 2010I HATE ORANGE. I WANT OUT NOW, I’M FED UP OF THEIR F*****G DELAYS!
Kevin
/ August 27, 2010Like I said they are full of it at the moment their service is going down hill big time. Maybe the update has not been released yet because their data networt is so bad in most area’s and you cant get gps for more that a few mins on some days :-(

/ August 28, 2010Just another example of how customers are lied to……..
“Yeah it will be out Friday………were all just having training on it……….Yeah you will get a text………”
Let me translate this for you………”Just get off my phone line so i can carry on talking to my mates and update my status on facebook”
