Today was an exciting day to be an HTC Desire owner on the O2 network. The operator released its “FroYo” Android 2.2 update for its branded HTC Desire, only to pull it pretty quickly – after upgraders reported problems with system crashes after installing the new OS.
Here’s what O2 said of the matter:
As some of you will have noticed the Android 2.2 Froyo update for HTC Desire on O2 went live this morning. While we’re pleased that so many of you have been able to download it successfully and are enjoying the benefits of 2.2, we have seen that a small number of people are having problems installing the update.
While we check out these issues we’re putting the 2.2 update on hold. We’ll update you as soon as possible and would like to thank our HTC Desire customers for their patience
Phones are either getting stuck on the boot screen, or crashing when loading web sites – particular the BBC news section. Do let us know if you’ve had any troubles. Link via Techradar.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ September 6, 2010This boggles my mind. 2.2 has been released for ages and has been OTA’d to the Desire on various networks at the point so wtf is going on?

/ September 6, 2010I have had Froyo on my phone since it came out (bought my phone unlocked) but have noticed that problem with the BBC website crashing!

/ September 6, 2010If its crashing then its because its been frakked with by O2. People with unbranded handsets aren’t having any issues. The messing around with the OS by the networks is giving Android bad press. HTC and Google must be fuming just as much as the customers
