T-Mobile UK launches FroYo Android 2.2 update for HTC Desire

Great news for users who bought their HTC Desires through T-Mobile in the UK – the network has begun “rolling out” its branded Android 2.2 update earlier today. For an idea of the additions T-Mobile has made to the standard Android 2.2 build, read the early opinions of upgraders over on the T-Mobile UK forum.

And here’s how T-Mobile confirmed the news this morning over on its software upgrades forum:

We have some exciting news for all our Desire users.

The 2.2 firmware update (FroYo) will be available from today and will be sent over the air (OTA) direct to your phone over the coming weeks.

Be sure to save all your personal data before you start downloading.

What a load of shit. Just adds a load of apps that are useless unless you’re German. T-mobile are such a bunch of douchebags!

yep… a lot of t.mobile apps not needed imo. ‘Mediencenter’ – german language, german mail account needed; ‘MobileTV’ – after opening it says that service is available only for T-mobile customers…lol

  6. I updated this morning, but I’m sure we’re missing the new shortcuts for phone, application launcher and browser, a la: http://developer.android.com/sdk/images/2.2/22home.png

Is there a setting to enable this, or have T-Mobile removed it?

    • That is not a desire screenshot, thats stock android the desire has the sense UI which is a theme made by HTC

Updated a couple of hours ago. Totally straight forward using wifi to download. Install took about 15-20mins and was simply matter of following on screen instructions.

No problems. Everything is working perfectly Inc my installed apps. No loss of data except the fact that my news app has lost my list of favourite feeds. Wifi stronger reception. gmail app has incremental improvements like being able to switch between multiple email accounts from a short cut list on the top right corner of app. Highly recommedated update. Do it now!

Phones appears split second faster and smoother. Screen seems sharper.

  9. Looks like they’ve left in a few apps which only work on the german T-Mobile… specifically Mediaencenter and Mobilbox Pro which is like Visual Voicemail.

No significant new branding… new TopApps application which is semi-useful and mobile wi-fi hotspot still enabled.

  13. am one of the german doucheabags…..was offered to upgrade my t-mbile.DE branded desire to froyo last saturdays.

am sorry for the UK users who have to deal with the tmobile.DE apps, that even for me are quite useless. now looking for instructions on how to get stock froyo installed…

after upgrading i suddenly experience low network coverage in my appartment where i never had trouble with 2.1.

I got the update (over WiFi at 89 MB!) at the W/E. Whilst the presence of 2 or 3 non functioning German specific apps, that cannot be uninstalled or moved to SD is irritating, the benefits far outweigh this. The only problem I’ve run into is a few Apps that clearly need updating, and a recurrent problem in the stock music player freezing when you try to go to list views. Overall however I think T- Mob should go ahead with the update to stop pissing off its’ customers and then retrofit it by stripping out the non UK apps at a later date. Just being able to chuck apps onto SD frees up so much space and functionality that it makes no sense to me that they would stop this process now!

I downloaded it and had not enough space to save it , long story short, I have not run the install as I was clearing memory now don’t know where the file is and cannot re download ? How can I fix this ?

    • This happened to me. Run a manual update again and click on download (the file won’t download again, it will open your previosly downloaded update), then install.

Tony-I have AT&T and bought an unlocked desire. Is it worth it to download the 2.2 update? And if so, where do I get it from? Thanks.

Since Froyo update, phone is no longer charging properly neither through USB through computer nor through mains. Not a happy bunny. Anyone else experiencing this?
