The famed firmware fiddlers over at MoDaCo have acquired an Orange San Francisco, and are at this moment tearing it to pieces and listing their findings in a comprehensive forum thread.
Shock fact #1 is that the super-budget £99 Android phone’s screen is indeed the 3.5″ capacitive OLED version that was first hinted at long ago by ZTE, plus there’s 424MB of onboard memory in the thing – which makes the San Francisco’s price point all the more remarkable.
Definitely worth picking one up, just for fun. This seems to only be on sale in-store at the moment. That or the Orange store’s webmaster is on holiday. Thanks to Pulse-modder Simon for the tip.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ September 24, 2010I picked one of these up yesterday. For the money it’s ridiculously good, sure its still a low end android device but its less than half the price of the wildfire (I’ve played with a couple, its a nice phone but that screen is hard to live with). The SF screen is excellent and the rez id great, I couldn’t tell you definitively that it is OLED, my bruv has a Galaxy S and that’s a lot more vibrant but the blacks on the SF look quite dark so maybe it is. Anywoo I think this is a pretty big deal really, all other dirt cheap android devices have some kind of showstopper whilst this is in another league.
Ps have not actually made a call on it yet, need to get it unlocked this weekend, for all I know it could be like trying to phone someone using a trout.

/ September 27, 2010Picked one up myself, great phone for the money. Camera is carp (on the fish theme), but for £80 (work discount), it’s the deal of the year.

/ January 2, 2011Extremely dissapointed with the phone. The bew white one or indeed anyone that orange sells you after december will NOT have the OLED. ZTE have replaced it with a TFT.
