Electronic Arts buys Angry Birds publisher Chillingo

According to a Reuters report, the PC and console game publishing powerhouse has paid around $20m “in cash” to acquire Chillingo, which, among other things, publishes the iOS versions of the amazingly popular Angry Birds.

Here’s what EA said of the deal:

“By acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple Platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world’s leading wireless entertainment publisher”

This deal will have zero effect on Android Angry Birds, in case you’re worried, as the Android version is self-published directly by the maker Rovio – which remains independent.
