There was an interview with the alarmingly youthful Jon Reynolds, founder of SwiftKey developer TouchType, in the Evening Standard yesterday, in which he gave his thoughts on the current status of text input on mobile phones and some insights into his business.
Yes, it’s pretty dry reading – apart from the bit where Jon confirmed that SwiftKey would soon arrive pre-loaded on some handsets, in a move that will have it moving into Swype’s territory. Here’s the relevant chunk:
It recently released SwiftKey, an app for Android-operated phones, and will have its software embedded into a number of phone models due for release in time for Christmas“
As the Evening Standard report says, this must mean it’s coming pre-loaded on Android phones, as Apple and Microsoft don’t let users install their own custom keyboards.
Reynolds also reveals that SwiftKey has been downloaded over 55,000 times – a very good result for an app that costs actual money.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
