The latest 4.7 version of Google Maps adds a “Rate Places” reviews and recommendation feature, along with an easy access Home screen widget which lets users quickly add a star rating and optional comment for any Google Places in the area.
Here’s Google’s explanation as to why you might want to spend your time doing such a thing:
“Get personalized recommendations — Why rate the places you’ve been? First, your ratings will personalize your search results by customizing them according to your tastes. Even better, when you add friends to the mix using Hotpot on your computer, your ratings will point them in the direction of the best enchiladas in town the next time they crave Mexican food, wherever they happen to be”
That’s the Android widget on the right. My nextdoor neighbours will be ecstatic that I’ve just given their B&B a five star rating.
Great. Don’t really understand much of this bizarre land grab around weird check-in social activities, and can only assume it’s primarily aimed at the youths. Read all about new Google Maps over on the Google Mobile blog.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
