The lack of an official Google app solution for access to its superb RSS Reader on Android has been a puzzle for some time. But it’s been rectified today, with the launch of Google Reader – an Android app that supports full integration with your Google Reader account and feeds.
Here’s Google’s description [UPDATE: Long version now on Google's Mobile blog]:
Follow all your favorite sites, blogs, and more, all in one place. See what your friends are sharing, and easily share any interesting articles you read. The Google Reader app syncs with the web version, so all your reading lists are always up to date
And the app in action a few minutes ago on our UK HTC Desire:
We’re long-term users of Google’s very good mobile web interface for its Reader site, so this’ll have to be quite a piece of work to replace that. Initial impressions are that it’s as simple and as fast as you might expect, with the ability to easily search for and add feeds from within the app itself.
It also supports a wide range of “social” sites within the app, so you’re able to subscribe to Twitter and Facebook feeds, Blogger blogs and many more types of online boasting services.
It supports multiple Gmail accounts and lets you page between articles using the volume buttons – but doesn’t let you fiddle with the font sizes on screen. Definitely promising. Give it a go. We can’t find an official announcement from Google yet, so you’ll have to do your own research into which version of the OS it currently supports.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ December 1, 2010I’ve just installed it on my HTC Hero, running 2.1. Seems to work alright.
