Three UK launches new unlimited smartphone data plan

We’ve been here before with painful consequences, but Three UK has decided to return to the “unlimited” data claims that have caused so much controversy over the last year or two as our smartphone use has rocketed.

Claiming to have completely removed limits and fair use policies attached to contracts taken out using its One Plan bundle, the network confidently claims to now have the UK’s only genuinely unlimited mobile data plan. Here’s the ballsy statement from the Three Blog:

We’re calling it All-you-can-eat Data, and it’s not like anything you’ll see from anyone else. Unlike other data plans, there are no restrictions and no crafty ‘fair usage’ policies containing hidden data caps. We’re leaving behind the ‘old mobile’ world of limits and allowances in favour of a new world that gives you the freedom to use your smartphone to do everything it was designed for without the worry of cost.

Our new world has no data restrictions, you can use as much as you want and we’ll never charge you a penny more.

Also, in a comment on the Three blog, the administrator has confirmed this includes data use when tethering your phone to a PC or laptop. Crikey.

That’s a pretty bold claim. Three’s One Plan currently lets you have the likes of the HTC Desire HD for £35 per month if you fancy having a go at testing these new claims. The company’s site still has the 1GB allowance attached to its plans, mind, so make sure you check your small print before signing up to anything.

All well and good, but 3 are removing the Orange 2G fallback in areas where they consider they have a strong 3G signal. I help moderate another forum and we have pages of complaints from 3 customers who can no longer get a signal indoors. Many are getting out of their contracts.
All you can eat is fine provided you can get to the table.
