Advent Vega loaded with “uncertified” Flash Player 10.1, software removed from next batch

There’s an odd situation surrounding the Advent Vega Android tablet at the moment, with the maker pulling support for Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 – due to the software not being licensed for use on the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset inside the Android tablet.

The next batch of Vegas to go on sale won’t feature Flash Player. Here’s a snippet from the PDF announcement over on the official Vega site:

If you have purchased an Advent Vega prior to 13th December 2010

Your device has an uncertified version of Adobe Flash Player 10.1. As a result, it may have not exhibit the optimal performance that the nVidia Tegra 2 processor is capable of running with certain Flash website content.

Once we obtain a certified version of Flash Player 10.1 for the Advent Vega, we will provide a seamless, free-of-charge download to this version. The certified software will be available to download from our website. http://www.myadventvega.co.uk

If you are planning to purchase an Advent Vega from 13th December 2010 onwards

Your device will be shipped without the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 pre-installed. As soon as we obtain certification for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 we will provide a seamless free-of-charge download from our website.

Whoops. The current (out of stock, as ever) listing on its exclusive UK retailers PC World and Dixons now refer to the tablet as “ADVENT Vega Internet Tablet – Non-Flash Version” to cover the embarrassing spec and software change.

  1. Well thing to do for any Vega owners is head over to MoDaCo.com where there is a very good community for, ahem, enhancing your Vega.

I do wonder what they are playing at with the stock, has it been more of a hit than they expected or have they just ballsed up on getting stock in.

All going well I have paid £199! Mind, I still dont have the bloody thing!
If everyone calls up(bout 15 min call) it would teach the greedy beggers to sell a product they don’t even have!!

          • Well I got a call today to ask if it had been delivered as they said it was sent on the 12th. (they took payment on the 2nd) I said no and they admitted it hadnt been sent as they had no tracking info ! SO they are sending another (IE the first one they didnt really send) no chance of gettting it before Christmas and no offer of compensation. right cheesed off

As ever do not beleive it when it says they are in stock. PC world had them in stock on dec 2nd so I ordered one. They charged my card that day. then they sent me an invoice which had been changed to say they are out of stock since this time they have been in and out of stock and yet no sign, so I paid for this weeks ago and it is not coming. PC world are now ignoring my emails. its terrible service, they have 250 quid of my cash for something that seems not to exist. appalled by the terrible service, no christmas present this year, thanks DSG group you are useless

  4. DSG up to their old tricks playing around with stock. Not the first time I have had problems with them. Hope something better comes along very soon and we will see who gets egg on their face. Why advertise vega in your magazines if you cant fulfill basic stock levels. The vega is generic oem, so I cannot believe for one minute that there is a genuine shortage of stock!!!
