Laptop and PC component maker MSI has confirmed it’s about to join the Android tablet FRENZY, with a 10.1″ multitouch tablet set to be revealed to the public at next month’s CES tech event in the US.
The MSI 100A Android tablet features “the new Google Android OS” which is a pretty vague and rather useless statement – but with an ARM processor and coming in a body that’s only 14mm thick/thin it ought to be a decent unit.
Here’s the relevant Android bit from MSI’s press release:
MSI WindPad 100A tablet: This lean, mean machine features the new Google Android OS, a 10.1-inch multi-touch control screen, the ARM processor, a digital compass, a GPS locator, a G-Sensor gravity detecting device, an ALS light sensor, and Wi-Fi. You also have the option of purchasing 3G. It tips the scales at a mere 800grams, is less than 14mm at its thinnest point, and can run for eight to ten hours on battery power.
The only image released by MSI so far is of the Windows-powered equivalent WindPad 100W – so that’ll have to do for now.
The Windows version will have an Intel chipset, although the idea of running Windows 7 on a touchscreen seems a little silly.
Motorola’s latest flagship dual-core Android monster is a massive, original powerhouse, that’s a big improvement on previous MOTOBLUR mobiles – but still isn’t a total winner.
A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
