The PC World and Dixons retail DREAM TEAM has once again taken a delivery of a new batch of the Advent Vega, with the 10″ Tegra 2 Android tablet now available for online order via both PC World and Dixons. They’re the same company and use the same “back end” so there’s no point comparing prices.
The cost of the Vega has risen, though, with both retailers passing on the UK VAT increase to the customer, bringing the price of the tablet up to £255.31.
Plus the makers are still waiting for their implementation of Flash Player to be certified for this hardware, so it’s still the non-Flash version that was on sale last year. Apart from that…
Motorola’s latest flagship dual-core Android monster is a massive, original powerhouse, that’s a big improvement on previous MOTOBLUR mobiles – but still isn’t a total winner.
A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

Secondly, it will run flash officially when it has been certified for Tegra 2 chipset
Thirdly, this tablet has the hardware spec to run Honeycomb, Galaxy Tab will be left out in the cold!!

/ January 20, 2011@David. It’s easy to reinstate the Flash support on the Advent Vega; to shun it merely for that reason is stupid IMO. There is a healthy and vibrant development community, so it’s growing in capability all the time. It has its flaws for sure, but that doesn’t take away from what it offers especially once you take its price into account.

/ January 22, 2011Yes, it is easy to sideload flash – I did this on mine. And I did it on the Archos 101 I had when I took the Vega back.
Both of these devices had appalling flash performance – so bad that you might as well NOT have flash. And guess what I took the Archos back too.
If I am not gonna have performance that is as good as my HTC Desire, guess what – I won’t bother. The ONLY decent android tablet, at the moment, that runs flash is the Galaxy.
And as far as the Vega ever running Honeycomb, I’ll bet it never happens. (not officially anyway!)
