Six months ago we’d have laughed off the Acer Iconia Smart as a very silly idea indeed. But having just watched about 50 boring and identical glossy rectangles being announced at Mobile World Congress this week, this crazy new Android phone could actually be a refreshing new take on things.
The screen size is 4.8″ across the diagonal, but this being super-wide format means you actually get an elongated form factor that doesn’t look as bulky as most extra-large mobiles. It runs at 1024×480 which is rather interesting, plus there’s a 1GHz processor inside. You also get 8megapixels out of the back camera hole and an LED flash.
Nice unibody metal casing, too. Shame Acer is still wasting money and man hours on that awful user interface it’s developed, though. Still, an interesting Android phone for once! We’ll make an attempt at getting one of these to review. We like the odd ones. Mainly out of pity.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
