HTC has just announced a new update of its winning HTC Desire series, is the shape of the HTC Desire S. It’s not a massive enhancement over the existing HTC Desire that rocked our worlds last year, offering a 1GHz Snapdragon MSM8255 sitting behind a 3.7″ screen.
What is new is the front-facing camera, plus it’s now encased in an aluminium body – which HTC compares to that of the old HTC Legend. Here’s a snippet from HTC’s announcement:
As a successor to the popular and award-winning HTC Desire, the new HTC Desire S blends stunning design with power and speed. Inspired by the HTC Legend™ smartphone’s aluminium design, the HTC Desire S is sculpted out of a single block of aluminum making it feel solid and natural in your hand. With Qualcomm’s new 1GHz Snapdragon™ MSM8255 processor, the HTC Desire S offers snappy performance and power. It offers dual front and back cameras, High-Definition video recording and the 3.7-inch WVGA display presents multimedia content brilliantly.
It’d do, but we doubt it’s going to have the same earth-stopping impact of the original old Desire, especially after we’ve seen what LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have come up with for 2011.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ February 15, 2011Is that it HTC? Love my Hero, ready for a new phone, looks like a switch to Samsung for me!
Sparky
/ February 15, 2011Looks like it doesn’t have any physical buttons on it??
That would be a backward step.

/ February 15, 2011Glad I’m not the only one. No physical buttons = NO SALE for me too.

/ February 15, 2011As much as I love my HTC Legend (by far the best designed HTC phone), it seems that HTC are stuck in a design rut at the moment.
Every “new” (I see they have ANOTHER version of the Desire out now) phone from them seems to be from the same design sheet. They are all varying sizes of the original Desire design.
Come on HTC – where’s the innovation??

/ February 15, 2011Omg! This can’t be the full lineup, if it sucks. Where is the flagship?

/ February 15, 2011Oh dear. I love my Desire and going on to that from a G1 I vowed it’d be HTC all the way for me now. But this….. No leaps forward in processor, no upgraded screen (that I can see), no real advances at all to be honest with LG, Samsung, and SonyEricsson breathing down their necks. Massive FAIL. :-(

/ February 15, 2011That picture is the Desire Incredible, the Desire S is more like the original Desire minus the physical buttons and it has a front-facing camera.
The line up from HTC is rather disappointing. Nothing major to get my pulse racing. I hope they are planning something for Q2 or Q3 because Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG will get ahead in the android market share.

/ February 15, 2011Sorry, meant the Incredible S..

/ February 15, 2011Goodness, yes, you’re right. My mistake. The actual Desire S looks even less exciting :(

/ February 15, 2011Isn’t that image the Incredible S? The Desire doesn’t have the two layer back that I find quite fetching but has only been on the US HTC models I believe.

/ February 15, 2011a lot of you are misinformed. The CPU is the newer generation snapdragon. Its much faster than your old Desire, especially in gaming. I have it right now in my Desire HD. Sure it’s not as good as Moto’s and Samsung’s offering, but it will do.
