Vodafone UK is the latest network to go completely ANDROID BANANAS, adding the majority of this week’s hot new Android phones to its “Coming Soon” section.
On the HTC side of things, Vodafone now features holding pages for the HTC Desire S, HTC ChaCha and HTC Wildfire S. And it’s also listing the Xperia Neo and Xperia PLAY, along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Plus, of course, Vodafone separately announced plans to support the Xperia Arc and Samsung’s Nexus S. And the Galaxy S II. That means it has officially gone Android bananas.
The whole world is about to go Android bananas, in fact. There won’t be any other kinds of telephone left by 2012 at this rate.
Motorola’s latest flagship dual-core Android monster is a massive, original powerhouse, that’s a big improvement on previous MOTOBLUR mobiles – but still isn’t a total winner.
A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ February 15, 2011HTC and Samsung (and everyone’s favourite plucky little Chinese telecoms conglomerate ZTE) seem to be making a big play for “ordinary folk”, the kind that choose a phone because it’s pink or cheap or because it’s got a Facebook button, rather than because it’s got a Tegra2 and version 3.14159 of Android.
They’re going to make a fortune. I can’t help but think that Apple would ideally prefer to be churning out pleasant looking 600Mhz phones that do a small number of key tasks well and sell at a premium price, and have accidentally found themselves in a technological arms race and price war against the massed ranks of far eastern phone manufacturers. But if they don’t come out with a Motorola Atrix style beast then they’ll get the same ho-hum reaction that these HTC’s have gotten.
I shudder to think what’s going to be available when my uber-cheap 800×480, 600Mhz ARM11 ZTE Blade stops being an entirely capable smartphone, even for a geek like myself, but right now these all seem like great first Androids for those without a smartphone yet.

I guess the playstation phone is interesting, but then have no interest in playing games on a handset.
