Momentous Android “Honeycomb” sculpture arrives at Google HQ

Google’s been throwing money at the artist community again, paying someone (these people, in fact) to make a new garden ornament symbolising the imminent arrival of hardware using its Android 3.0 “Honeycomb” update of the OS.

It’s pretty hard to symbolise honeycomb. This is what they came up with.

A big plastic bee. Although it looks more like a wasp. Picture nicked off some man’s Twitter. There’s a video of the arrival on YouTube, if you prefer your images moving.

The bee looks like it’s about to eat Android.

  2. Thanks for the plug! We certainly had fun creating the sculpture, but just to be clear, Google did not “throw” money at us. we work very hard at what we do. and while (from time to time) someone may want to throw something at me, it unfortunately is never money) ;P We just updated our blog. come see the progress photos of Honeycomb!

That was a generalisation, a cultural turn of phrase. I just meant you presumably got paid.
