This is a bit bonkers. LG has somehow convinced the Guinness organisation to give its Optimus 2X Android mobile a “World Record” – for being the first mobile phone with a dual-core processor to hit the market.
They even got a certificate for this spurious first. We preferred Guinness when it was about how many car tyres Geoff Capes could balance on his head.
We’re happy to award the girl on the right the “Lumpiest Knees” award.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ April 30, 2011Guinness World Records were officially deemed worthless and a laughing stick from the moment Microsoft got one for SHIPPING 10m Kinect units, but pretending they had sold them all (with over 4m Kinect stuck in retail unsold).
Guinness Fail…

/ April 30, 2011I’m confused. Was it not the first dual-core phone? Or is that not worthy of a record?
Speaking of, do they have an official record for thinnest smartphone? That record seems to change every day.

/ April 30, 2011Yes, it was. It’s just… being “first” to do something isn’t really a record, is it? The first man to run 100 metres isn’t still the world record holder, is he?
Anyway. Seems a bit silly, that’s all.

/ May 1, 2011Yeah, you get a lot of kids on forum sites saying “first!” on the postings hardly a record a really.

/ August 29, 2011wel.. m not with you….designing a phone is not silly….but innovating the new technology in a new way is a success…which Lg did…n that cmpny claims for.it…….

/ May 1, 2011I disagree. Roger Bannister with first sub 4 minute mile, Yuri Gagarin first man in space, etc. – all valid records (which can NEVER be beaten, unlike times to do something which will be beaten over and over – the point is, its still a record.

/ May 1, 2011Well, those are more like “milestones” than records. I think we need a McWhirter family member to adjudicate on this.

/ May 3, 2011Roy Castle just texted me to say it’s only a record if it required dedication.
