Vodafone has just told its users that the latest Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” update for the original Galaxy S has cleared its checking process, and is now available for those who bought their phones through the network to install (and who didn’t get it before it was pulled last month).
As ever with Samsung phones, you’ll be needing to connect your Galaxy S to your computer and install the update that way via Samsung’s KIES app.
In return, you get a slightly different and hopefully slightly refreshed mobile telephone. The new software update will identify itself as i9000BUJV9 once finished.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ May 19, 2011Seems to be there for SIM free (i.e. non-network bundled) phones and, from the reports from others, for Vodafone and Orange supplied phones as well. If you obtained your Galaxy S from another network YMMV.
Why on earth do I have to download a great big upgrade to the Kies bloatware in order to install it though? I’ve not long gone through the pain of installing the b****y thing, now I have to download it again! Argh! And it’s not even as though it makes it easy to download by providing a link – no you have to do a web search on order to find it.

I have had the same ‘You have the latest version’ message for several days. Eventually, I uninstalled Kies and downloaded and installed it again and the 2.3.3 update started straight away.

/ May 23, 2011I’ll see. There’s a man doing a full redesign for me at the moment, so hopefully it’ll have something a bit more advanced in the near future.

/ June 14, 2011Vodafone shit. It is shame. Since 2.3.4 has gone out and nothing … and continue with no improvements Froyo … I once had an iPhone 3G and it is very close if you do not do the jailbreak but updates were constant and for all … In my opinion it is better OS android but the updates have to go through operators, manufacturers and even my grandmother … I make the market more desperate SO … Saludos
