INQ’s quirky little Cloud Touch Android 2.2 phone features a heavily customised Home screen system, which lets user access their Facebook stuff direct from its social network themed Home screen.
And it’s about to bring a Foursquare “home screen experience” to the phone too, with INQ and Foursquare building a full-page skin to let Cloud Touch users ping exciting news about their latest coffee purchase out to all their friends. This is it:
It’s basically an enormous Foursquare widget. We think. The INQ Cloud Touch is a mystery phone we’ve not yet used. Here’s the press release if you need further clarification:
INQ TEAMS WITH FOURSQUARE TO BRING LOCATION TO LIFE ON THE HOME SCREEN
NEW YORK – May 23, 2011 – Today at TechCrunch Disrupt, INQ Mobile and foursquare announced that the companies are collaborating on a foursquare home screen experience for INQ’s range of Android phones. Users will be able to swipe back and forth between Facebook and foursquare home screens, depending on what they are doing, what they are looking for, and who they want to connect with.
INQ is known for bringing social applications to life on mobile by deeply integrating app functionality throughout the phone and delivering live streams to the home screen, making it easy to stay in touch with what friends and family are up to.
The new integration uses the foursquare API to recommend nearby places to eat, drink and shop based on your location and past check-ins, along with check-ins from your friends and other members of the foursquare community.
Dennis Crowley, foursquare CEO said: “This is an awesome demonstration of the power of foursquare. We’re psyched that INQ has chosen foursquare to power the location layer on the INQ Cloud Touch.”
Frank Meehan, INQ’s CEO, said: “The foursquare experience on INQ is all about engaging a customer to really explore and discover interesting places. First, we’re looking to make it really easy for a consumer to discover and sign up to foursquare itself, via the start-up sequence. Then we’re taking foursquare’s great knowledge of the world around you and visualizing that on your home screen, enabling you to explore events, restaurants, clubs, etc. and even bookmark places in a to-do list.”

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
