UK retailer Comet will send you a Binatone Homesurf 8 in return for a mere £69.99, which we reckon makes this the cheapest Android tablet on sale in the UK today. In return for your money you get an 8″ resistive screen running at 800×600 resolution, and, er, Android 1.6.
Might be worth investing in one of these if you operate some sort of gadgetry museum.
It’s rubbish. But for £69 you pretty much waive all rights to complain about it at checkout. Have a look at it over at Comet if you need a spare, practically disposable Android tablet to put in the shed or loft.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ June 22, 2011Hmm, nice idea for my cctv (blue-Iris software) system. If thats a dock I see in the picture then I can use IPCamViewer in Quad mode. Also then as a Network enabled picture frame?

/ June 23, 2011This is the problem with an “open” OS. Devices like this give Android a bad reputation because of the poor quality.
Android 1.6 can be passable for a cheapo tab but resistive screen… useless. Might be alright for doing the odd bit of browsing but even web apps such as Gmail are all optimised for capacitive screens.
I love android but at least the tablet experience on an iPad is consistent.

/ July 6, 2011Sadly the Binatone Homesurf 8 doesn’t deliver as well as it ought to. I shouldn’t really grumble at £69 but when you can’t find compatible apps because there is no access to the Android Market you are really running a dinasour. Binatone offer very little support, so you are left to your own devices to find usable apps. I can’t even find a audio player to support audio books. Even my iphone can manage that.
Overall verdict: Disapponting!

/ July 18, 2011Don’t be misled into buying this product! Build is good & looks good, but that’s where good stuff stops.
- Tablet runs really old version of Android, cannot be upgraded
- Touch screen is old style touch screen where you have to press very heavily to get it to work
- Processor really slow, so can’t use majority of Android apps
Much better to spend money on something else, as 5 years ago this would have seemed brilliant, but now seems ancient beyond belief.
