There’s something a little odd going on with this Flickr account. It’s hosting piles and piles of photos of what would appear to be a new HTC Android phone undergoing testing.
Also, look at this one – capacitive buttons beneath the screen in landscape mode. This would appear to tie in rather nicely with the forthcoming “Ice Cream Sandwich” update of Android, wouldn’t it? It would marry the mobile and tablet versions of the OS perfectly if it had accessible buttons when used horizontally…
It’s hard to gauge the size of the device given the lack of context surrounding the bizarre photos, so it may even be a modestly sized tablet. But judging by the reflection in the screen (!) of two more devices, it looks like a mobile to us.
Link via Techradar, which is calling this the HTC Ruby due to the raw EXIF data extracted from the photos. And just in case the Flickr page disappears, we’ve chucked a whole heap of the odd photos online below…
If nothing else, it’s a very interesting tour around someone’s desk inside HTC!

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ July 22, 2011That is the htc flyer in the pictures, the device that you are talking about is the one in the reflections of the tablet. You can only see the dual led flash and the white blackplate. You cant see the buttons like you are saying.

/ July 22, 2011So, it’ll be way over priced, have no battery life and as quiet as all the other HTC devices on the market? ;)

/ July 22, 2011Looks like the Flyer (2?), you can see the touch point for the stylus bottom right. Those phones in the reflection look interesting.

/ July 23, 2011I’ve loaded one of those pictures in my special esper photo enhancing software. If you zoom in on the one of the office, you can see the reflection in the reflection of the lens of the phone taking the picture. If you zoom in on that, you can see a circular mirror on the wall that would be to the left of the photo as we see it. Zoom in and enchance that and you can quite clearly see a shelf that’s in the room nextdoor with the entire range of upcoming HTC phones and tablets.

/ July 23, 2011Yeah, as Jaakko pointed out, that is the current HTC Flyer. I was actually playing with one in a store today. It has two sets of touch capacitive buttons, one for landscape, and one for portrait viewing. They light up/dim as the screen rotates. You can even see the symbol for when using the pen, lit up dully, on the right hand side.
It would be nice if it was a new tablet, but unfortunately it isn’t. The tour of the desk was nice though.

/ July 23, 2011The phone is new though. The camera looks similar to the one on the Cha-Cha as well…
